Back-to-back national title for marina cadet

Congratulations to our Marina Operations Cadet Jasper Camenzind, who has been crowned 2026 WASZP National Champion at the 2026 PredictWind WASZP New Zealand National Championships, successfully defending the title he won in 2025.

The regatta, held at Manly Sailing Club, brought together top sailors from around the country competing in the high-performance WASZP foiling dinghy class. Earlier this year, Jasper also finished second overall at the 2025–26 WASZP Asia Pacific Championships in Brisbane, competing against an international fleet.

“It’s really rewarding to defend the national title this year,” Jasper said. “The competition was tough, but I managed to stay consistent and keep focused on each race.”

The WASZP is a single-handed foiling dinghy that lifts above the water on hydrofoils, creating spectacular high-speed racing.

“Foiling is such an exciting way to sail – every gust of wind counts,” Jasper added. “Training here at the marina has really helped me prepare for these events.”

Photos and coverage from the regatta are available via Facebook here – watch Jasper’s interview here.

A fantastic achievement – congratulations Jasper!
