Cans for Kai now available at Auckland Central and Silo marinas
We’re pleased to share that LegaSea’s Kai Ika ‘Cans for Kai’ initiative is now available at Auckland Central and Silo marinas, making it even easier for berth holders and marina users to recycle aluminium cans and support a great local cause.
Waste management can be a challenge on board, particularly for older vessels that weren’t designed with modern recycling systems in mind. As a result, recyclables often end up mixed with general waste once boats return to shore. Cans for Kai offers a simple way to make a positive difference.
Delivered by LegaSea’s Kai Ika Project, in partnership with Papatūānuku Kōkiri Marae and supported by our marina team, the initiative turns aluminium cans into funding for kai to support whānau in need.
How it works
- Drop off your aluminium cans at the designated Cans for Kai collection points (pictured below) at Auckland Central and Silo marinas
- The cans are collected and recycled by Phoenix Metalman Recycling
- Proceeds from the recycling go directly to Kai Ika, helping fund food distribution programmes
Aluminium is an infinitely recyclable material, making this initiative both environmentally and socially impactful.
