Construction and maintenance update - January 2026
General Maintenance
Routine safety checks, water blasting, and general upkeep continue across Auckland Central and Silo marinas to maintain a clean and safe environment for all users. If you notice anything that needs attention, please don’t hesitate to contact the marina office.
Localised refurbishments on floating structures at Auckland Central Marina are ongoing. These works typically affect only one or two vessels at a time, and impacted berth holders are contacted directly. The refurbishments include replacement of timber walers, steel through-rods, and structural framing to help extend the lifespan of marina infrastructure.
Refurbishment work has recently been completed on a section of pontoon north of the Bascule Bridge. This project involved replacing a complex hinged pontoon section directly opposite the harbour entrance. The new steel and timber components will ensure the long-term integrity of this highly exposed area.
Looking ahead, work is planned at the foot of the south-west Te Wero gangway, where new angle frames, pile guides, through-rods, and timber walers will be installed. This work is scheduled to begin in March 2026.
At Silo Marina, selected sections of the steel reinforcing flitch plates that sit between timber walers will be replaced over the coming months. While these plates retain their structural strength, ongoing flexing can cause coatings to crack, leading to surface rust and staining. New sections are currently under fabrication and will be installed as part of this year’s maintenance programme.
Wynyard Crossing Bridge maintenance
As part of a proactive maintenance programme, the Wynyard Crossing Bridge will undergo scheduled servicing to ensure it remains a reliable and resilient connection for years to come.
The next maintenance works are planned for the following evenings:
- Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 February, between 10.30pm and 5.30am
During these times, the bridge will remain raised, meaning marina access will be unaffected. However, the bridge will be closed to pedestrians, with a signed detour in place.
These works are essential to maintaining the bridge’s reliability and ensuring its continued safe operation.
If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact the Auckland Central Marina office. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation while this maintenance is carried out.
